Collaboration for AIDS Vaccine Discovery logo

...Co-PIs Bali Pulendran and Rafi Ahmed have received a $6 million award from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation as part of the Collaboration for AIDS Vaccine Discovery (CAVD). Other members of the Emory team include Sudhir Kasturi, Francois Villinger, and Tianwei Yu. The Emory project will optimize Bali and Sudhir's enormously successful nanoparticle approach to activating Toll-like receptors (TLRs) to induce optimally effective innate immunity in a nonhuman primate model of HIV infection.

Health Education Specialist -- Coordinator of Prevention Strategies, Emory University Office of Health Promotion. Lead staff member needed to manage high-risk drinking and other drug use prevention initiatives, primarily at the population level. Content expertise in alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD) is required. Transferrable skills from other public health and higher education settings are also valuable. This is most likely not the right fit for a recent MPH graduate unless s/he has considerable work experience. Please pass this information on to anyone you think might be an excellent candidate.

Mentors Sought:
Clinical, translational and basic research investigators are being soguht to mentor Emory medical students during their Discovery Phase, a 5 month block of time devoted entirely to training for and conducting a focused, hypothesis-driven research project. Discovery projects will take place during Spring, 2013. Deadline for prospective mentors to turn in a brief project description is November 1, 2012.

The CFAR just received a notice of award from NIH for supplemental funding ($250,000) to distribute as CFAR03 awards for HIV-related research in areas of interest to the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Start thinking of good ideas and stay tuned for the RFA from the CFAR Developmental Core.
