... to Shelle Bryant for quarterbacking an astounding effort by the 15-member CFAR Rapid Response Team* that led to the development -- and subsequent award -- of THREE NIH supplement apps in less than 24 hours.

Because of her superb ability to marshall the troops the Clinical Core has been awarded $309,787 to build a full-scale research data base of Ponce Clinic patients (Vince Marconi, Project Dir.), the Virology Core has been awarded $101,420 to purchase an IntelliPATH FLX fluidic workstation to perform in situ hybridization of SIV-infected cells in tissues (Guido Silvestri, Core Dir.), and the Longitudinal Women Interagency HIV Cohort Study (WIHS) site at Emory has been awarded a crucial $40,000 to fill the final gap in funding for a FibroScan 502 Touch to enable research in people with HIV/HCV or HIV/HBV co-infection (Igho Ofotokun and Gina Wingood, Project Dirs).

One article announced that 8 inventors, Emory University, and RFS Pharma (Raymond Schinazi) are seeking to patent a new treatment for HCV. The other described Emory's new $11.9M award (Igho Oftokun and Gina Wingood, Co-PIs) for the Longitudinal Women Interagency HIV Cohort Study (WIHS).

Mentors Sought: Clinical, translational and basic research investigators are being soguht to mentor Emory medical students during their Discovery Phase, a 5 month block of time devoted entirely to training for and conducting a focused, hypothesis-driven research project. Discovery projects will take place during Spring, 2014.

Mentees Sought: HIV Clinician Mentoring Program
The Southeast AIDS Training and Education Center (SEATEC) at Emory is accepting applications for a free, intensive 12-month HIV clinician mentoring program. Applicants should be actively licensed MDs, PAs, or advanced practice nurses providing or interested in providing HIV clinical care to at least 20 patients within AL, GA, KY, NC, SC, or TN.

Program Dates: January 2014 - January 2015
