Body Scanner    

... to the Prevention Science and Clinical Research Cores on the receipt of an NIH-funded supplement to the CFAR base grant. That's right, our FOURTH. The shared award will enable the purchase of a Human Solutions Vitus 3D Scanner that takes accurate measures of human anatomical features, enabling work in such diverse areas as HIV treatment-related lipodystrophy and lipoatrophy, anatomical factors affecting transmission of HIV, barriers to proper condom use, and self-image pressures that can promote HIV vulnerability.

The CDC is looking for real people to appear in an ad campaign about the health effects of smoking cigarettes. Specifically, they are looking for men (age 25-50) -- particularly Asian and Spanish speaking men -- with HIV who have taken their medications as advised, but continue to suffer adverse health because of their history of smoking

   Mexico AIDS Conference

Three CFARians presented at the 15th Annual International AIDS Symposium in Queretaro, Mexico (August 29-30).

Raymond Schinazi gave the opening plenary ("El descubrimiento de fármacos antivirales contra el VIH y Hepatitis C: Una historia de ciencia y serendipia"*) and Wendy Armstrong chaired a sesion interactiva con casos clinicos (interactive clinical case presentatin), "Retos en el manejo antirretroviral"**, in which Carlos del Rio participated.
