Divider RuleQuote of the Week...

You know, when I found out I was HIV positive at nine, I had no idea what my future looked like. And now, as an adult, obviously I'm still HIV positive but I have a future, and I have that future with you. And we’ve built that. And, you’ve made me feel so beautiful and loved. And I didn’t think I could have that.
- Cristina Peña, who was born HIV+ in 1984, talking to her HIV- boyfriend Chris Ondaatje about their 13 year relationship.

Divider Rule Kudos ...
     Carlos del Rio

Hard on the heels of appearing in last week's Kudos section, when we reported that he has been named Chair of NIAID's AIDS Research Review Committee, we are VERY pleased to announce that Carlos del Rio has brought CFAR reflected glory AGAIN by being named as the 2014 recipient of the Thomas Jefferson Award, the highest honor that Emory can bestow for distinguished service to the University. HURRAH FOR CARLOS!

Awarded to individuals who exemplify personal and professional qualities of community involvement, influence, and leadership, Carlos is only the second CFAR member ever to be singled out for this signal honor; Dennis Liotta received the Thomas Jefferson award in 2011.

     The Normal Heart

... CFAR is co-sponsoring the Atlanta premier of The Normal Heat, a searing HBO movie based on Larry Kramer's autobiographical play. It portrays the political, social, psychological, and physical horror of 1980s AIDS in such a visually visceral way that an advance screening evoked vivid flashbacks and an opportunity to grieve in those of us who still occasionally re-live those years in our nightmares. This movie is not suitable for children.
Screening will be at the Carter Center and an online RSVP is required.
See Events for May 14 below to RSVP.
