Why Carlos del Rio is glad that he wasn't sitting in his home office during Irma a few more minutes than he actually was.

     Kate Winskell

... to the Hubert Department of Global Health on having awarded tenure to former Dev Core funding recipient Kate Winskell! Kate is interested in how young Africans perceive HIV/AIDS (R03HD054323), how that perception has changed over time (R01HD085877), and ways in which a mobile phone game can be used to lower their risk of HIV aquisition (R34MH106368).

Craig Hill

... to the Royal Society of Chemistry on having elected Craig Hill as a Fellow of the Society.

     Dennis Liotta

... and to Gilead on having awarded Dennis Liotta the 2018 Alfred Burger Award in Medicinal Chemistry.

Happy Birthday

... to Cliff Gunthel (10/5), John Altman (10/6), Cathy Ceja (10/8), and Eugene Huang (10/10)

Birthdays are good for your health. Research shows that people who have the most birthdays live the longest. Have a happy one!

     Colleen Kelley

HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have been egging each other on for so long that its hard to know which is the worse influence on the other. With new R01 funding from NIH/NICHD (R01HD092033) and support from CFAR's Virology and Molecular Biomarkers Core, Colleen Kelley is putting that Bad Romance under a microscope and examining the biologic interactions between HIV and bacterial STI on the mucosal immune milieu of the rectum. Her findings may help the development of improved biomedical prevention interventions.
