Divider Rule Government News...

      State of the Union

During his 2019 State of the Union address on Tuesday, February 5, the President said:

"In recent years we have made remarkable progress in the fight against HIV and AIDS. Scientific breakthroughs have brought a once-distant dream within reach. My budget will ask Democrats and Republicans to make the needed commitment to eliminate the HIV epidemic in the United States within 10 years. Together, we will defeat AIDS in America."

Claire Sterk     Carlos del Rio     Jim Curan

After the speech three prominent CFARians were asked to respond to the statement.

Here's what they said:

Carlos del Rio: PBS News Hour

Divider Rule Special Announcement...

     Government News

These are exciting days for HIV research!...

First, in December 2018 the NIH announced that they would provide additional funding to the CFARs for HIV care and prevention research in vulnerable southern U.S. communities.

Government News

And then yesterday (2/7/19), JAMA published Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for the United States by Drs. Anthony Fauci (NIH), Robert Redfield (CDC), George Sigounas (HRSA), Michael Weahkee (IHS) and Brett Giroir (OASH).

Both of these announcements describe an initiative that will collaborate with the NIH CFARs to focus on improving HIV diagnosis, treatment, and prevention efforts in geographic and demographic hotspots in the U.S.
