This is a periodic celebration of new research awarded while Network News was on extended hiatus.

      Sam Jenness

(Belated) Kudos to Sam Jenness for receiving his FIRST NIH R01 funding in July 2018 for R01AI138783 (Epimodel 2.0: Integrated Network Models for HIV/STI Prevention Science).

The Good: There exists nearly two decades of NIH and CDC funded research that has generated modeling tools that are being used to support the development of HIV policy across the country.

The Bad: Unfortunately many of these tools aren't well connected to useful behavioral or clinical data that can be used for parameterization and don't excel at including robust cost/benefit analyses.

The Sublime: Sam's R01 is currently in its second year of building on the previous decades of work to construct integrated networks, integrated epidemiology, and integrated economics methods and software tools that, collectively, are capable of forecasting the performance of innovative HIV/STI prevention technologies and translating fast-evolving clinical research into public health policy that maximizes the epidemiological impact at an acceptable economic cost.
