     Cindy Derdeyn

Cindy Derdeyn, has received new R21 funding from NIH/NIAID (1R21AI150292) to be used for the Discovery of Novel Epitopes for Antibody Dependent Cell-Mediated Cytotoxicity Against HIV-1 Infected Cells.

HIV research efforts are strongly focused on developing vaccines that can elicit highly protective antibody responses. The only phase III vaccine efficacy trial to date that shows a signal of protection in human volunteers demonstrated that antibody dependent cell- mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) was associated with reduced acquisition, compelling Cindy's lab to learn more about Fc-mediated antiviral function. The R21 funding will allow them to look more deeply into this.

Workshop Participants Sought: Interfaith Health Program
The Interfaith Health Program (IHP) at the Rollins School of Public Health, in collaboration with the Counter Narrative Project and Thrive SS, seeks to understand how Black gay men in Atlanta experience religion and spirituality as the first step toward developing LGBTQ-affirming, faith-based HIV programs and materials.

Four workshops will be held on four different Saturdays from mid-March to early May, and IHP is recruiting participants to attend ONE of those workshops. Participants will each receive $50 for their participation.

Our Stories Can Change the Epidemic

Dear Community Partners,

Sacred Truths: Atlanta's Black Queer Voices is an initiative at Emory University looking at the ways in which spiritual practices and communities can be resources for Black gay men in Atlanta in the area of HIV education, prevention, and support services.

We believe this project begins at a different starting point from many HIV initiatives that seek to partner with faith-based organizations and religious leaders. By and large, many of these initiatives tend to sidestep issues of gay male sexuality and affirmation, opting for silence (at best). This new program in Atlanta is starting with a different set of assumptions.

The project will conduct a series of workshops using community-based participatory research and action methods with Atlanta's black gay male communities and religious and community leaders. Sound intriguing? Please out this Interest Form
