In Other Exciting News....

    Matt Gardner
    Matt Gardner

Matt Gardner has just received CFAR-03 funding from the CFAR Developmental Core for his project "Improving AAV-delivered eCD4-Ig for HIV Therapy-based Strategies."

From his application: "Although the use of antiretroviral therapy (ART) has allowed HIV- infected individuals to live without detectable virus, current ART is associated with uncomfortable side-effects, expensive to distribute in resource-poor settings, and requires regular compliance. Adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors can provide long-term expression of HIV-1 inhibitors, possibly supplementing daily administration of ART to decrease the HIV viral reservoir."

Under the mentorship of Guido Silvestri, Matt and his research team will characterize new eCD4-Ig inhibitors that will ultimately be used in AAV vectors to determine their therapeutic efficacy.

Congratulations Matt!

Do Over Alert... Hanging Out With Good Company in Bad Neighborhoods

It turns out that algorithms matter.

As reported today by NewsGuard -- an organization that monitors if news sites can be trusted -- Emory Healthcare ads can be found on websites that traffic in COVID-19 misinformation.

At least we are in excellent company. The advertising platforms whose misfiring algorithms are at the root of the problem are also placing ads for the Mayo Clinic, Pfizer, and the CDC on those same sites.
