Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Core

The Biostatistics & Bioinformatics (Bios) Core provides high-quality statistical and data management training and support for the design, implementation, analysis, and publication of HIV research.

In addition to providing biostatistical and bioinformatics services to CFAR members, the Bios Core develops novel techniques that overcome statistical design and analytic challenges in basic, clinical, translational, and social/behavioral research and provides access to training in analytic and small database management methods.

The Core is physically located in the Grace Crum Rollins Building of the Rollins School of Public Health.

Services Offered by the Core

  • Developing data management, data monitoring, and adverse events reporting plans
  • Protocol design and analysis
  • Sample size/power estimates
  • Statistical analysis (may require a plan for supplemental support)
  • Writing up analysis plans
  • Advisement on specialized analytic techniques
  • Access to faculty with specialized expertise for developing grant proposals and research programs

Developmental Activities:

  • Developing algorithms and software to meet specialized analytic challenges (may require a plan for supplemental support)

  • Individual-level instruction on data analytic methods, including those listed above
  • Individual-level instruction on randomization, matching, and methods for small database management
Other Services:

  • Statistical analyses using SAS and R including:
    • Logistic regression, Cox proportional regression, multiple linear regression
